WEEKLY THEME: WHAT'S UP IN WINTER

LETTER OF THE WEEK: I

THIS WEEK: Our focus this week will be discovering many wonderful things in winter. We will learn about animals that migrate, hibernate or adapt to winter weather. We have snowmen activities planned that will allow us to practice our counting and matching skills. We will be crafting personalized snowmen and playing with snow like play dough. If we get lucky, maybe we will have real snow inside our sensory table. Letter I is for IGLOO and ICE CREAM. A dramatic play table is set up with igloos and arctic animals to explore. On Tuesday, we will enjoy having a small ice cream treat.

LAST WEEK: The preschoolers compared two well-loved versions of The Mitten story. Identifying story elements from both stories will allow the preschoolers to recall the sequence of the animals as they appear in the story. In addition, this lesson will teach us to identify the “accent” in a story, poem and songs. The highlight of our lesson was acting out The Mitten with costumes and instruments. On Friday, we focused on a graphing activity using our very own mittens and gloves. It was a GREAT week!

Mystery Readers - We are looking for friends of the preschoolers who would like to SURPRISE us by meeting our class in the library to read a good story.  We can provide the picture book or you can bring a favorite of your own.  If interested, sign up for a convenient date on our Mystery Reader link below.  We welcome moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, etc.  Readers need not be virtus trained and will meet us downstairs in the school library at 9:30 a.m.  It will make our day!  We love a good mystery.

Thank You to Santiago's mom for being our 1st Mystery Reader.

ALPHABET WORK

We are learning rhyming, alliteration and syllabication as we play with letters.

OFFICE PLAY The preschoolers will be writing, cutting, stamping, learning letters and numbers as our preschool office is set up this month. Donations of stickers, note pads, and tape refills are always appreciated!

OUTDOOR PLAY - Thanks for remembering to send winter gear with your preschooler each Friday morning for outdoor play. (This includes snow pants and boots.)  Those without gear will be sitting in the office while we play.  Weather permitting, we will play outside every Friday morning.  Please mark all boots, mittens, hats, snow pants, etc. with names.  Boots may be left in the hallway to keep our classroom floor clean and dry for play.

LUNCH BUNCHERS-  Are playing outside each afternoon this winter, weather permitting.  We really enjoy our time outside.

PLEASE PRACTICE WITH YOUR PRESCHOOLERS THE IMPORTANT SELF HELP SKILLS OF GETTING THEMSELVES DRESSED TO PLAY OUTSIDE.  PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
