MMSA School Board

The MMSA School Board meets the second Tuesday of every month from 6:00-7:00.  School Board members also commit to hours outside of the official school board meetings by participating on different committees, attendance at fundraising and PR events, and in preparing for each school board meeting.

Parents and/or parishioners are invited to serve a three year team on the school board by either the pastor or the principal.

The School Board acts as an advisory board to assist the principal.

MMSA's School Board mission:  In answer to the call of Jesus Christ, Maternity of Mary ~ St. Andrew Catholic School Board is dedicated to assisting the pastor and principal in ensuring that we provide a Catholic education that develops the unique gifts of each student, in an environment that promotes academic excellence, spiritual growth, and social responsibility.

Role of the School Board:
The board provides valuable human and financial resources to the school.  The old "w-rule" still applies today as some bring wisdom, some the ability to work on projects and some bring wealth.

  • Formulate long range strategic planning
  • Develop an annual budget with the school principal and appropriate financial staff of the school and parish
  • Review and recommend policy changes to the pastor and principal (note policy initiative usually begins with the principal with the board assisting with research and consultation)
  • Develop a plan for the long range financial security of the school, including major fundraising projects
  • Assist with marketing the school and acting as ambassador of good will for the school
  • Establish annual goals/objectives for the board to achieve
  • Evaluate itself in light of its goals/objectives
  • Assist the pastor in the selection of a new principal
The five characteristics that make an outstanding board
  1. A firm belief in the mission and philosophy of the Catholic School
  2. An understanding of the vital role as church the board plays in coordination and direction-guidance with the Pastor/Canonical Administrator, principal, and Parish Administration in the financial planning of the present and future needs of the school
  3. A deep concern for the current and future students and staff of the school
  4. A forward outlook that allows them to focus on the essential elements of planning and policy necessary in a time of demographic change
  5. A strong sense of advocacy and support for all of the curricular and extra-curricular programs of the school
